Diverse tasks
 As our Project Engineer – Offshore Cable, you will:

  • Effectively support the Project’s Work Package Manager in the definition and delivery of cable transmission assets for the Project.
  • Inform the Employer’s Requirements for cable design and installation activities.
  • Support project FEED activities including development of routes, option selection and management of risk.
  • Provide discipline engineering support for submarine cable deliveries and interfaces with suppliers, and the electrical team for design for the submarine cables (support will include developing wind farm, cable routing and sizing).
  • Review, comment, and approve design documentation, quality plans and other procedures as appropriate in support of the HV cables.
  • Proactively work with procurement, to support supplier evaluation, selection and award for submarine cable activities. Ensure safety, engineering due diligence and best value is achieved.
  • Support the interface with the wider engineering team, the consenting team and stakeholder engagement team to meet the requirements of the external examination process.
  • Timely manage the interfaces between key external stakeholders, including engineering contractors, installation contractors and suppliers, as well as technical interfaces between the cable package and other areas of the project.
  • Identify and manage key engineering and technical delivery risks and provide input to project risk management and mitigation action plans.
  • Identify Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) risks and communicate as appropriate.
  • Assist in the coordination of all HV cable assurance activities, including the management of Design Verification Plans.
Convincing profile
  • A degree or the equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years relevant experience; specifically in the areas of engineering or and environmental & social advisory/management.
  • Extensive track record and experience with submarine cable (array and/or export) package engineering and delivery
  • Demonstrated supplier management, interface management, project management/project engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of good engineering practice.
  • Understanding and experience of working with CDM Regulations, particularly the role of Principal Designer. 
  • In depth working knowledge of HV submarine cable design, manufacture and installation, as well as relevant codes, standards and guidelines.
  • Self-starter; inclusive and respectful individual capable of working in a dynamic, multicultural and agile team environment with competing priorities, including understanding roles and responsibilities within interfacing teams. You should be able to develop collaborative working relationships and to influence project delivery teams to ensure that that the construction work integrates well into the overall project plan.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and strong command of the English language. German is a plus.
Desirable Criteria: 
  • Experience in the offshore wind at the consenting application phase.
  • Experience with HVDC systems.
  • Experience with cable Landfall development and installation.
  • Professional technical and/or project management accreditation.
About the division
You will join us in the Morven project which is one of the new offshore wind projects being developed by the EnBW-bp Joint Venture off the East Coast of Scotland. The multi-billion pound development has a potential generating capacity of around 3GW – enough to power more than 3 million homes. 

The role will hold assigned responsibility for maturing the design through to technical scoping and management of manufacturing, delivery and verification of HV submarine power cable hardware and services for the Morven Project. The role will ensure the deliveries are in line with project HSSE and quality standards and within project schedule and cost objectives.
