Your tasks

Within the IT Trading department, we are currently looking for a Corporate Expert - IT Data  to join our dynamic team. You are an asset to our team if you have a deep understanding of data platforms, cloud architecture and common IT systems prevalent in European commodity trading. In this role your main responsibilities will be as follows:


  • Analyse data domain and IT strategies, goals, and requirements to develop a strategic technology roadmap for base capabilities in Data Backbone. Deliver and operate components related to Data Backbone. Support data domain self-service principles.
  • Lead a team of internal and external colleagues, following agile delivery patterns backed by a corporative team culture. Contribute to the development of the team and individuals to become a class A team, meeting your data domain clients at eye level. 
  • Develop solutions that address complex business problems or challenges derived from various data domains in partnership with the domain owner. This includes build vs buy evaluations in the data platform areas within commodity trading. 
  • Govern technology standards, guidelines, and best practices for projects within the data backbone platform. Ensure consistency of standards across data domains.
  • Evaluate and research emerging technologies (cloud, data, AI), map industry trends and apply best practices to Data Backbone foundation capabilities.
Your profile
  • Senior expert building large data eco systems including data mesh domains, data products, shared components and libraries, (predictive) monitoring and data linage, data catalogue repositories, API Gateways as well as data streaming capabilities 
  • Experience in designing and operating data platforms using cloud capabilities (API Gateway, Snowflake, S3, AAD, Kafka/Aiven, DataDog). Deep technological knowledge of cloud technologies and services, and experience in building data mesh, data lakes, data warehouses etc. 
  • Strong knowledge in turning enterprise architecture and data domain requirements into modular solution architecture capabilities. Experience to build technology from a data consumer perspective
  • General practise in solution design and experience in various coding languages and standards (Python, C#, SQL, REST, Git, Azure DevOps, etc.). Be able to step into coding or build prototypes if necessary (exceptional). 
  • Knowledge of security principles and practices 
  • Experience of working in data driven trading companies .Nice-to-have: business knowledge in energy trading sector
  • Language skills: English (mandatory), German is a plus

EnBW Trading is a data driven enterprise, requiring endless information about trade lifecycles, markets, meteorological data, asset data, client insight, etc. The decisions are driven by data insights based on flexible solutions to gather, transform, transport, manipulate, visualize and extract data. 

To support dynamics and opportunities in Trading, a data backbone architecture has been established. Our data backbone offers fundamental technical components to enable data domains in supporting operational as well as analytical data storage for real-time and delayed data. All architecture components are cloud only. 

The team works remotely most of the time, but we meet regularly at our offices in Karlsruhe, Germany. Paired with our flexible working times this ensures you work where (in Germany) and when it suits you best.
